Nail fungus, medically termed Onychomycosis, is one of the most commonly diagnosed foot conditions, affecting 10 – 12 percent of the population. Clinical studies have shown lasers have an 81% effective rate in clearing the condition. The microbes that cause nail fungus are very small and survive in warm moist environments. It is easy to pick up the infection at pools, showers, gyms, nail salons that don’t use proper disinfection techniques and you can catch it from someone you live with.

Dermalaser’s nail fungus Treatments are 3 – 5 sessions, once every 2 weeks. The laser targets and effectively kill the microbes causing the infection. After the treatment the nail should grow out clear after 8 to 12 months with the first visible signs of clear nail growth within 3 month period.

Toe Nail Fungus Q&A

  • Is this laser painful?

The gentle laser light beam has no effect on healthy tissue. There is no pain but some patients may experience temporary warmth in the nail during treatment. This treatment does not harm or affect your activity in any way.

  • Does it really work?

In the latest clinical study 81% of all patients treated sustained a clear nail improvement at 12 months after a few treatments. The nail plate should grow out clear in 8-12 months if there is a healthy nail bed. This result is better than the results reported for the oral pill, lamisil ®, which you take for three months with some risk of side effects.

  • Is this treatment safe?

There are no age or health restrictions or limitations. In clinical studies there have been no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities or known side effects. As you may know, the oral medications now used to treat toenails must be taken daily for months and carry with them some side effects that can affect the liver, kidneys, and skin. This laser does not.  Some lasers need to be cooled with a spray because of the heat buildup or they are so low powered, they do not kill fungus.

  • Does my insurance pay for this?

Because this treatment is considered aesthetic, health insurance plans do not cover this treatment. We accept major credit cards and personal checks and also offer payment plans.
